Becoming a Candidate

This updated election document system is for those Kentucky citizens contemplating seeking an elected office. This election document system is for general information only and does not have the force and effect of law, regulation, or rule. In case of conflict, the law, regulation, or rule will apply.

Effective November 6, 2019, Senate Bill No. 60 changed the candidate filing deadline for offices on the ballot in 2020 and in subsequent years. Pending litigation may affect the Statement-of-Candidacy filing deadline for Independents, Political Organization and Political Group candidates as governed by KRS 118.367 and enacted in House Bill No. 114 and Senate Bill No. 60.

Candidates and others using this system bear full responsibility to make their own determination as to all legal standards and duties.
